Samsung Affiliates Invest $1 Billion in KKR-Backed AI Infrastructure Firm Helix
Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced a combined $1 billion investment in Helix, an AI infrastructure company founded by KKR. Samsung Electronics is contributing $500 million, with the other half coming from the five other affiliates.
Helix's other founding investors include KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA, and U.S. power company Vistra. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services, and covers hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber networks.
Each Samsung affiliate brings distinct strengths: Samsung Electronics' DS division supplies advanced semiconductor solutions, Samsung C&T handles data center and power plant construction, Samsung SDS covers data center design and GPUaaS, and Samsung SDI provides UPS and BBU.
