Saudi AI Ethics Center Looks to China for Balanced AI Innovation and Regulation
The 4th Global AI Ethics Forum is being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, co-hosted by UNESCO and Saudi Arabia, with the theme of improving global cooperation for AI ethics governance.
Majed Ali Al-Shehri, acting director of the International Center for AI Research and Ethics, said China is a leading country in AI, with a vast ecosystem in infrastructure, data centers, core technology and R&D. He looks forward to China setting a global example in balancing AI innovation and regulation.
Al-Shehri noted that basic principles for global AI governance have gained some consensus, but the challenge now is moving from policy-making to implementation. The center proposes AI ethics master's degrees at top universities worldwide, hopes to invite Chinese universities to join, and is working to build partnerships with Chinese institutions.
