Sony Music Removes 260,000 AI Fake Songs from Streaming Platforms
According to the Financial Times, Sony Music has asked streaming platforms to take down over 260,000 AI-generated songs that fake its artists. That is nearly double the 135,000 tracks from late March.
These songs use AI deepfake tech to copy the voices and images of stars like Adele, Britney Spears, Queen, and Michael Jackson without permission. Dennis Kooker, Sony Music's global digital business president, said fake streams may make up 10% of tracks on streaming sites.
Music executives estimate streaming fraud costs the industry up to 2.2 billion US dollars a year. Sony says this hurts artists and misleads fans, and is calling on platforms to act quickly.
French streaming platform Deezer revealed it gets about 90,000 AI-generated songs a day, more than half of all new music. Last year, 85% of plays of fully AI-made songs were found to be fraudulent.
