SpaceX Buys AI Coding Firm Cursor for $60B, Brand May Change
SpaceX agreed in June to buy AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion, with the deal expected to close by the end of this month. This purchase fills a key gap in Musk's plan to compete in coding tools.
According to The Information, Cursor told employees that the brand name might be phased out in the coming months. For example, its upcoming general agent, codenamed "Sand," could be renamed to "Grok Bot." However, current tools like the Cursor coding assistant will keep their names for now.
The brand discussion has raised questions among staff. Cursor CEO Michael Truell said the brand and enterprise customer relationships are valuable assets. The final decision could change, and SpaceX might even pick an entirely new name.
