SpaceX completes $60 billion acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor
SpaceX has completed the acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion, one of the biggest deals in tech history. The deal was finalized on August 14, two months after the agreement was announced.
Cursor, launched in 2023, offers an AI assistant that helps programmers write and debug code faster. It quickly became one of the fastest-growing startups globally. With this acquisition, Cursor's team will get access to SpaceX's massive GPU clusters to build stronger and cheaper models.
SpaceX and Cursor already released their first joint model, Grok 4.5, in July, focusing on coding, finance, and legal tasks. They later introduced Grok Bot and an upgraded Grok 4.6. This move is seen as a key step for Elon Musk to catch up with AI rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI.
