SpaceX engineering data to train next Grok model
SpaceX's aerospace engineering data will help train the next version of Grok, Elon Musk said. He noted the new model will have about 2 trillion parameters, almost double the current Grok 4.5. Sensitive data like rocket engines and guidance systems won't be used due to U.S. arms trade rules, but manufacturing methods and Starlink hardware design data are included.
This is part of Musk's plan to share data across his companies. Tesla provides driving data, X platform gives conversation data, and now SpaceX adds its engineering data from 2002 onwards. In June, SpaceX highlighted Grok and xAI's Colossus supercomputer as key AI assets when listing on Nasdaq. It later bought AI coding startup Cursor for about $60 billion in stock, giving xAI software distribution and developer data.
The earlier Grok 4.5 used some Cursor data and matches Anthropic's Opus 4.7 in ability but runs faster and cheaper, Musk said. The new 2-trillion-parameter model, often called Grok 4.6, is in final training and expected to finish this week.
