Stripe is reportedly buying OpenRouter for nearly $10 billion
Payment giant Stripe is in talks to buy OpenRouter, the world's largest AI aggregation platform, with a deal value that could reach nearly $10 billion. OpenRouter was founded in 2023 and now hosts hundreds of open-source and closed-source AI models for developers and businesses.
Sources say negotiations are still ongoing, details are not final, and the deal could still fall through. Other buyers may also join the race. OpenRouter was valued at just $1.3 billion in a funding round in May 2023.
Stripe, founded in 2011, handles online payments and developer payment APIs. It has dual headquarters in San Francisco, USA, and Dublin, Ireland. If the deal goes through, it would help Stripe quickly step into the AI infrastructure space.
