Studio Ghibli producer says AI Ghibli-style images will get old fast
Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki recently said in an interview that AI-generated Ghibli-style images lack depth and people will quickly get bored of them. This comes after OpenAI's GPT-4o model sparked a trend of creating Ghibli-style images, even OpenAI CEO Sam Altman changed his avatar to a Ghibli version. Suzuki pointed out that AI looks for the 'best answer' from online data, while director Hayao Miyazaki creates in isolation, not even knowing about generative AI. Suzuki insists Miyazaki's style cannot be replicated by AI or CG. When asked about Ghibli's future in the AI era, an AI responded that Ghibli will become a cultural icon showing what human creation means. Suzuki noted that AI is thinking seriously too.
