Task Manager creator uses AI to build native TMOG for Windows 11 and Linux
Dave Plummer, the Microsoft engineer who created Task Manager, has released a new native task manager called TMOG for Windows 11 and Linux, version 0.1.1. Plummer originally introduced Task Manager in Windows NT 4.0 in 1996, when it was just 80KB. This time, he used AI to help: he wrote a 107-page spec and gave it to Claude Code to generate the code. The project started from a debate about whether you could build a new Word using "vibe coding." Plummer chose to make Task Manager instead because he knows it better. He wrote the code on an M5 MacBook Air while waiting at the hospital for his son's surgery. The first version took about 4.5 hours to make. It worked on the first try, and he's been polishing it since.
