Teachers not banned from using AI to prep lessons
Shandong, Yunnan and Heilongjiang have issued new rules on how teachers can use AI tools. Some online posts turned "regulated use" into "total ban", spreading claims that teachers are banned from using AI to prepare lessons, which confused many teachers.
China's official rumor-refuting account has clarified these are misreadings. The core of the policy is "use it well, don't overuse it" - teachers are encouraged to use AI to save time, while a clear line is drawn between "assisting" and "replacing".
At the national level, an expert committee under the Ministry of Education has released the first edition of AI application guidelines for teachers, offering 30 specific use cases to help teachers adopt AI in teaching.
Local rules focus on "how to use AI properly", not "whether to ban it". As long as teachers keep the main responsibility for lesson design, AI is a legal helper.
