Tech Layoffs in 2026 Already Surpass All of 2025
Global tech layoffs are intensifying in 2026. By mid-August, over 126,000 tech workers had been let go this year, surpassing the 122,606 total for all of 2025. Big companies like Amazon and Meta are investing heavily in AI while cutting jobs at the same time.
The rise of commercial AI models is hitting the job market hard. Managers can easily use AI to generate code, so demand for developers and engineers is dropping. Salesforce, LinkedIn, and cybersecurity firm Rapid7 have also recently announced layoffs.
This trend is causing a big loss of skills in the tech industry, and there's no sign of it stopping soon. Some workers have already decided to leave the field entirely.
