Tencent's Liu Chiping on WeChat Agent: Active Progress but No Specific Launch Timeline
At Tencent Holdings' 2025 earnings call, Tencent President Liu Chiping talked about the latest progress of WeChat Agent. He said WeChat has tested multiple AI features as a preview for the Agent, leveraging its close user connection, rich ecosystem, and mature business model to create value for partners.
However, there are still challenges in the process, such as user privacy protection, general models struggling to adapt to WeChat's unique functions (requiring further model capability improvement), and the need for high reasoning ability to support WeChat's large user base. Currently, there is no specific launch timeline, but progress is being actively made.
In addition, WeChat is developing its own AI model, expected to be launched externally in 2026, which will integrate into the mini-program ecosystem to support AI agent development. It is also secretly developing a "top-secret" AI agent that will connect millions of mini-programs in the future, replacing users to complete tasks like ride-hailing and food delivery.
