Tencent VP: AI on devices is the last mile for widespread use
At the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, Tencent VP Lin Songtao said devices are the last mile for AI adoption. He noted AI is moving from chat assistants to smart partners that take action, possibly on PCs, phones, or robots.
Lin stressed that model differences are shrinking, but engineering gaps are growing. Models set the upper limit, but engineering decides the lower limit—users come for features but stay for reliability. AI should free up time for thinking and creativity, becoming a tool for everyone.
The conference covers over 100,000 square meters across three venues. More than 1,000 companies showcase 3,000+ exhibits, with 300+ new AI products debuting globally. Over 140 forums are held, including a new academic track and youth innovation competition.
