Tesla App hints at phone control and data collection for Optimus robot
Tesla is getting ready to launch its Optimus humanoid robot. New app code shows users will be able to add their phone as an authorized device to control the robot, similar to how they set up a car key. This uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for secure access and also works with Robotaxi, Tesla's self-driving ride-hailing platform. The goal is to stop unauthorized access and keep devices safe.
The app code also reveals a home data collection feature. When Optimus does chores like vacuuming, washing dishes, or dusting, the app will ask for permission to record video and space data. This helps improve the robot's smart models. The system will also send alerts for low battery, mechanical issues, and other problems.
Most of this update is tied to Tesla's summer 2026 refresh, which includes new features like custom car wrap previews. Elon Musk has said Optimus could become 'the best-selling product of all time.'
