Tsui Hark says AI is blurring the line between reality and illusion
During the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, France, Hong Kong director Tsui Hark joined a masterclass and shared his thoughts on how AI affects our sense of reality.
He said AI is increasingly blurring the line between reality and illusion. Ads, the internet, and AI work together — with more sources and faster spreading, content is easier to shape and harder to trace back to its true origin.
He pointed out that when images, videos, and text can all be generated or altered by technology, viewers struggle to tell whether content reflects real events. This uncertainty is worrying.
Tsui Hark also linked AI to identity, noting that constant information shapes how we see ourselves. The festival is now screening four of his classic films.
