US Congress Probes DoorDash's Use of Chinese AI Model
Two US House committees are jointly investigating DoorDash, the largest food delivery platform, over its use of Chinese AI models. DoorDash founder Andy Fang had said internal tests showed that Kimi K2.6 from Moonshot AI combined with Anthropic's Fable 5 outperformed Sonnet 4.6 plus Opus 4.8 at a lower cost. DoorDash now uses a model routing service to delegate some tasks to Kimi K2.6.
The inquiry noted that US companies might deploy Chinese open-weight models for cost and customization benefits, but these advantages don't erase security risks or national security concerns. Homeland Security Committee Chair Andrew Garbarino said China is closing the gap with the US, and reports of Chinese open-source models matching US capabilities in cybersecurity are worrying. DoorDash responded that it strongly supports US AI leadership and looks forward to working with the committee on safe AI use.
