US Software Developer Jobs Up Nearly 15% Since Claude Code Launch
After Anthropic launched its AI coding tool Claude Code in February 2025, US software developer jobs kept growing instead of shrinking as many feared.
Data from Indeed Hiring Lab shows software development job postings in the US rose nearly 15% over the same period, while overall hiring fell 7%. Growth is mostly in senior roles and AI-related jobs, which made up 71% and 37% of the increase.
The job market is splitting: US data scientists grew 36% from 2023 to 2025, while data entry jobs dropped nearly 20%. Stanford's 2026 AI Index found early-career software developers saw employment fall about 20%, making it harder for new grads to get in.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics expects software developer jobs to grow 10% from 2025 to 2035, adding about 174,700 positions, so the long-term outlook remains positive.
