WeChat and Alipay enter AI Agent race, aiming to simplify daily tasks
WeChat and Alipay are both jumping into the AI Agent space. WeChat started testing its AI ecosystem in June, letting developers connect their services. Users can now order food or book a ride just by talking to the AI. Major apps like JD.com, Meituan, and DiDi have already signed up.
Alipay launched its AI version for testing on June 16. The new interface has just two sections: a chat assistant called 'Abao' and your assets. You can ask Abao to check your balance, top up your phone, or order takeout. Alipay says all money-related steps still need your final approval.
Both apps are moving to a 'you say, it does' model. Instead of searching and clicking through menus, you just tell the AI what you want. WeChat focuses on its mini-program ecosystem, while Alipay leans on its financial services. This shift could change how we use apps entirely — from finding features to simply asking AI.
