Westlake University and DAMO Academy Create AI Model to Predict Stem Cell Fate
Westlake University and Alibaba's DAMO Academy have unveiled a new AI model called 'Gui Yuan' to predict how stem cells change. Stem cell reprogramming is complex, and old methods rely on trial and error, which is costly and has a low success rate.
The 'Gui Yuan' model analyzes nearly 4 million combinations of small molecule drugs and growth factors to predict their effects on cell fate. It can also explain why certain combinations work.
Using the model's recommendations, the team successfully created high-quality hypoblast-like stem cells, better than previous results. This could help study early human embryo development, blood cell production, and cell therapies.
