Zuckerberg admits Meta's AI shift is too fast, causing organizational issues
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted in an internal memo that the company's shift to AI has caused organizational problems. He said the fast pace of restructuring has led to issues with employee placement, management span, and stability.
Zuckerberg noted that AI technology is advancing quickly and changes are complex, so the company will likely make more mistakes. He promised to provide more stability and said no more company-wide layoffs are expected this year.
Meta completed a major restructuring in May, cutting 10% of its global workforce and moving 7,000 employees to AI-related projects, including AI model training. The company plans to find new roles for these workers to keep team sizes manageable.
To improve collaboration, Meta will increase team-building budgets and hold a large hackathon in July. The new AI engineering department has a flat structure, with up to 50 individual contributors per manager.
