29 countries sign agreement to launch World AI Cooperation Organization
On July 16, 29 countries signed an agreement in Shanghai, China to launch the World AI Cooperation Organization, marking a major step for China’s push for global AI collaboration. The organization will focus on three areas: boosting AI skills worldwide via policy talks, tech sharing, and joint research to help developing countries benefit equally; acting as a platform to connect supply and demand, combine national strengths, promote “AI+” initiatives, and build open-source ecosystems; and supporting UN-led global governance, including the Global Digital Compact and sustainable development goals. Headquartered in Shanghai, the organization was proposed by China on July 26, 2025. The agreement sets its rules and promises no restrictions on members' other partnerships. It will work with the UN and other groups to ensure AI benefits everyone.
