AI-designed drug may slow aging, trial shows lower biological age
Insilico Medicine's AI-designed drug, Rentosertib, may slow aging, based on a clinical trial for lung disease. The drug, initially for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, also showed reduced biological age in patients, measured by six aging clocks. Published in Nature Biotechnology, the study involved 43 patients. After 12 weeks, all clocks showed lower predicted age, marking the first clear evidence that biological age can be reduced. Experts caution about small sample size and lack of testing in healthy people. Founded in 2014 by Alex Zhavoronkov, Insilico uses neural networks to speed up drug discovery. The drug is still years from approval, but it offers a model for future longevity research.
