Anthropic and Trump Restart Talks on Fable 5 Model Launch
According to Wired, sources say the Trump administration and Anthropic have improved communication, restarting talks on relaunching the Claude Fable 5 model. This follows the U.S. National Security Agency confirming a security bypass for the restricted flagship model Mythos, leading to export controls and a June 12 shutdown of two of Anthropic's most powerful models.
Founder Tom Brown has replaced CEO Dario Amodei in meetings, a move welcomed by regulators. Amodei was reportedly hard to work with and ignored safety concerns. The core issue now is what security proof Anthropic must provide to address fears about Fable 5 being hacked.
Industry site Inner Loop notes a fundamental disagreement: many cybersecurity experts believe model guardrails are just temporary fixes, as skilled users or future AI models will find ways around them. The timeline for Fable 5's return is unclear, but the requirements to lift the export ban may be clarified in the coming days.
