Spotify removes 50 million AI spam songs to boost human artists
Spotify says it has removed over 50 million low-quality AI-generated spam songs from listener feeds in the past year. It also tweaked its recommendation system to put real human artists first. The platform doesn't force labels on all AI tracks, but it launched an "AI Persona" tag for creators using fake AI identities, and won't recommend music made by these virtual personas. It spots bad tracks using listening behavior, metadata, and third-party AI detection tools. Other platforms are stricter: YouTube Music labels AI songs, Deezer lets users filter out low-quality AI music, and Bandcamp bans AI music entirely. Spotify also removed over 75 million spam songs last year. Meanwhile, it is working with Universal Music Group and distributor Believe on an AI music remixing tool.
