Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei Gets Parodied on US TV Show, Sparking More Debate on AI Safety

The US comedy show Saturday Night Live recently parodied Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, portraying him as clumsy and arrogant, trying to explain why the technology he created won't destroy the world. In the sketch, cast member Jane Wickline played Amodei with two personalities arguing about AI's pros and cons.

Earlier, Amodei wrote an article warning that AI models are rapidly getting out of control, calling on frontier companies to slow down development and accept government regulation. But in recent weeks, he has instead promoted Anthropic's breakthroughs in medical research and protein structure, and stopped making severe doomsday predictions about AI.

So far, warnings about AI safety have not led Washington or Silicon Valley to form a majority in favor of pausing or slowing down tech development. Former Meta chief AI scientist Yann LeCun replied with a string of laughing emojis on X after seeing the parody video.
