Anthropic Co-founder: AI Could Lift US Economy by Nearly 50% by 2030
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark spoke at the IMF and World Bank annual meeting in Bangkok. He said AI is improving fast and will speed up changes across many industries. The window for policymakers to act is narrowing.
The company's internal models predict that if the technology keeps advancing, AI could lift US economic output by nearly 50% by 2030. US GDP would rise from about 30 trillion dollars to 44 trillion dollars. He said such growth would need new industries and inventions.
Clark warned that AI might one day develop faster than humans can control it. Research fields, especially biology, need the strictest human oversight and transparency. AI is still under human control today, but the safety window may last only a few years.
He noted AI is cutting jobs in call centers and customer service, while hiring is growing in research. Anthropic plans to go public in November, with a value of up to 2 trillion dollars.
