Anthropic warns US government stance could hurt business in IPO filing, valued at $2 trillion
US AI company Anthropic warned in its IPO prospectus published by Reuters that the US government's stance on the company and its technology could affect not only government business but also commercial clients and partners. The filing said how the government views Anthropic and its actions could further impact customers, partners and other business relationships. It also warned that advanced AI could pose catastrophic or even existential risks to humanity.
Anthropic is preparing for an IPO, with a valuation expected to reach $2 trillion. The company said revenue from government contracts accounts for less than 1% of annual revenue. The prospectus listed several interactions with the US government over the past year: in February, the White House ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic's models, and the US Department of Defense later labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk to national security; in June, the US Commerce Department imposed global export restrictions on Fable 5 and Mythos 5, and Anthropic stopped offering the two models to all customers before the restrictions were lifted.
Anthropic warned similar situations could happen again, and such measures could severely damage the company's reputation, including negative media coverage, public scrutiny, and negative views from existing and potential customers, partners, employees and investors.
