Apple can now gather more evidence in trade secrets case against OpenAI
Apple's trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI is moving forward. Judge Edward Davila has approved Apple's request to expand evidence gathering, allowing early access to some internal files, evidence, and witness testimony.
The defendants include OpenAI, io Products, and two former employees, Chang Liu and Tang Tan. The approved evidence covers Chang Liu's ChatGPT, Claude, and Codex usage records, devices used to access and store Apple's secrets, and witness statements. The case touches on tech like batteries, power management, and metal surface treatment.
The judge did not approve all of Apple's requests. Details about OpenAI's own devices and accounts, plus internal investigation records, stay off limits. The defendants now have up to 14 days to submit records and respond to Apple's questions.
