AI Can Restore Mosaic-Covered QR Codes If Not Fully Blocked

Some people found that a coupon screenshot with a mosaic over its QR code could be fixed by an AI image tool, and the code became scannable again. This raised concerns about information leaks. CCTV tested it: if the doodle only covers the edges of the QR code, or is too thin, AI can restore it. But if the doodle covers the whole code and is thick enough to hide all details, AI fails. Experts said AI can only restore the code when the core data area is not covered. QR codes have an error-correction feature, so they can still work with partial damage. The tip: when sharing images with QR codes, cover at least 90% of the code with mosaic to keep codes like payment or coupon codes safe.
