Douyin cracks down on AI-abusing marketing accounts, handling 507,000 in a month

Douyin said that while AI tools have made content creation easier, some malicious marketing accounts use them as a shortcut, mass-producing content and copying viral templates to cash in, which hurts the platform's ecosystem and squeezes out quality creators.

The platform listed five typical violations: AI content made to farm engagement, impersonating public figures to sell products, mass-producing fake information, horror or superstition content for traffic, and low-cost copying to build accounts in bulk. Some accounts even used AI digital humans to pose as celebrities' relatives, making up fake health stories to push sales.

In the past month, Douyin removed 1.135 million violating videos and handled 507,000 accounts, while guiding 302,000 accounts toward proper creation. The platform says it will keep cracking down on AI abuse in marketing and trace the black-market tools and training groups behind it.
