Bill Gates Warns Governments Are Not Ready for AI Changes

Bill Gates said in an interview with Reuters that no government in the world is ready for the changes AI will bring to society. He warned that AI will hit jobs, could be used to launch attacks, and may lead to addiction to AI companion programs.

Gates has discussed his concerns with leaders of several countries, including US President Donald Trump and his team. He said governments are far behind on AI governance and called for countries to work together to avoid risks.

Meanwhile, the Gates Foundation announced plans to invest at least $1 billion over the next two years to expand access to AI technology, with funds going to education, healthcare and agriculture, and to help build the data foundations AI needs. Gates stressed that AI has huge potential in healthcare, supporting frontline workers and speeding up drug and vaccine development.
