China's Market Regulator to Use AI to Spot Illegal Sales and Regulate Livestream Shopping
China's State Council Information Office held a press conference on the 15th Five-Year Plan, where the State Administration for Market Regulation outlined its push for high-quality market oversight.
Wang Wei, spokesperson and deputy director of the administration, said the work will focus on three areas. First, it will crack down on problems that harm consumers, such as fake goods, price fraud, poor after-sales service, false promises and unfair terms. Big data and AI will be used to find illegal leads and regulate online sales and livestream shopping.
Second, it will improve how consumer disputes are resolved by making complaints easier to file and promoting online dispute resolution and no-reason returns for in-store purchases. Third, it will build a consumer credit system and aims to have more than 5,000 safe-consumption zones across China by 2030.
