China's software industry revenue exceeds 6.2 trillion yuan in first half, up 10.3%
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported on July 20 that software revenue from January to May 2026 exceeded 6.2 trillion yuan, up 10.3% year-on-year.
Basic software is growing fast. The open-source HarmonyOS now runs on phones, PCs, cars, and home appliances, with over 1.35 billion devices in its ecosystem. Industrial software is widely used, with 86.3% of key industrial firms adopting digital design tools by end of June.
AI is transforming the industry. Code models and smart coding tools boost efficiency. China's national AI open-source community has over 11 million users and 70,000 hosted models, with global downloads surpassing 10 billion.
The ministry plans to launch an 'AI + Software' action plan to drive intelligent software development and strengthen open-source infrastructure for project incubation and supply chain security.
