Cloudflare Launches Wallet for AI Agents with Digital Payments and Identity
Cloudflare announced on August 4 the launch of Cloudflare Wallet, a feature that provides AI agents with digital credit cards, identity verification, and spending limits. This solves the payment obstacles AI agents face when trying APIs, allowing them to purchase APIs, MCP tools, and content headlessly. Cloudflare Wallets includes two types: Account Wallets for account owners to fund and delegate permissions, and Virtual Wallets for AI agents running via API keys with set limits. Payments use the Monetization Gateway and x402 protocol, enabling micropayments attached to HTTP requests. Virtual wallets support limits, whitelists, and max transaction sizes, like a $10 budget for an agent to evaluate many options. Cloudflare also links wallets to accounts via cloudflare.pay, giving agents stable human-readable identifiers, similar to DNS mapping IP addresses to URLs.
