College Student Sentenced for AI Face-Swap Bank Fraud
A court in Changsha, Hunan, sentenced a college student named Wu for using AI face-swap tech to steal money. Wu bought a service online that turns static photos into videos that can fool bank payment systems. In less than four months, he helped steal over 50,000 yuan from three victims.
He got personal info from scammers on overseas chat apps, made fake face videos, reset payment passwords, and had a "money laundering team" move funds. The group was well-organized, requiring new members to pay crypto deposits.
The court gave Wu one year and ten months in prison plus a fine, considering his surrender and compensation. This case warns about AI misuse in cybercrime and the need to protect personal data.
