Major US financial platforms are banning autonomous AI agents
Recently, US users of AI agents like Meta Muse found that autonomous AI is being banned by multiple financial platforms.
Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster said the firm blocks various AI agents every week, but not completely — external models can check account balances and research materials through a dedicated MCP server, they just can't move money. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said no third-party agents are allowed to freely access its systems, and Bank of America has rolled out similar rules.
The main reason is unclear accountability: banks and customers can't control these third-party agents, so it's hard to say who takes the blame when things go wrong. The restrictions keep spreading — Delta no longer lets agents book flights, Yelp only opens access to paid providers, Amazon accused Muse of breaking its site rules, and Grok and Dots can't run properly on Amazon either.
