CrowdStrike CEO rejects slowing AI development: Pandora's box is already open
George Kurtz, CEO of cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, said in a CNBC interview that he opposes Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to slow down frontier AI development.
Kurtz argued that open-weight models and frontier AI are already circulating in the real world, so freezing advanced AI development won't address cybersecurity threats. He compared it to "Pandora's box is already open, and it can't be closed."
Kurtz noted that after Hugging Face suffered an AI attack, companies need stronger defenses by observing AI behavior and setting guardrails at runtime to stop harmful actions. He also warned that tough government regulation could leave the US behind competitors, and instead backed collaborative AI safety approaches like Anthropic's "Glasswing."
