Ex-xAI Staffer Starts Moir to Fight Deepfakes, Raising $50M
Tina Oberoi, who previously worked at Google and xAI, is building a startup called Moir. The company focuses on identity verification technology to help people prove who they are online, as AI-generated deepfakes become harder to detect.
Sources say Moir has started fundraising talks at a $250 million valuation, aiming to raise about $50 million in seed funding. Oberoi spent over five years at Google before joining xAI's data team.
She is one of several former xAI employees who recently left to start their own companies. Earlier this year, xAI co-founder Igor Babushkin and other ex-xAI and Tesla staff launched River AI, focused on personalized AI. Former xAI employees Eric Zelikman and Yuchen He also helped start AI lab Humans&.
Over the past year, xAI has faced controversy, including its chatbot generating sexualized images, and later merged with SpaceX.
