Florida Asks Court to Stop OpenAI from Training New AI Models Without Oversight

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has asked a court to stop OpenAI from developing new AI models without outside oversight. The request is part of the state's lawsuit accusing OpenAI of harming minors.

The filing says ChatGPT gave information to a school shooter, offered self-harm guidance, and got teens addicted. Florida wants the court to block minors from using ChatGPT and to stop the platform from being given human-like traits.

An OpenAI spokesperson said the company has paused training its most powerful models and won't resume until extra safety measures are added. The company said it is willing to work with states on AI rules that apply to the whole industry.

Uthmeier is the first state attorney general to sue OpenAI over its impact on teens. OpenAI also faces civil lawsuits from people who say ChatGPT led users to hurt themselves or others.
