Global Billionaire Count Hits Record High in 2025, AI Investment Boom as Key Driver
According to Fortune magazine, a new report from wealth intelligence firm Altrata shows that the number of billionaires worldwide reached 3,795 in 2025, a new record. Their total wealth grew by 12.8% year-over-year to $15.1 trillion, nearly a quarter of the total market cap of the S&P 500.
Among these billionaires, 29 have assets over $50 billion, including Larry Page, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos. The report points out that the AI investment boom is a major driver of wealth growth, with many tech billionaires seeing their fortunes rise as their companies expand in AI.
Billionaires also tend to invest in sports and philanthropy. 201 of them own sports teams or invest in sports franchises. Investing in professional sports not only showcases wealth but also helps expand social circles, while philanthropy allows them to give back and drive change in certain areas.
