Huawei Report Predicts Global Annual Token Usage Will Grow 100,000 Times by 2035
Huawei held an online launch event titled "Act Now, Reach the Future" and released its research report "Intelligent World 2035: From Vision to Action," proposing ten key questions for the road to an intelligent world. The report says Agentic AI is pushing the digital world from being app-centric to being agent-centric. Agents constantly sense their environment, reason and make decisions on their own, use tools dynamically, and interact with people in real time. Each step involves large-scale Token generation and high-frequency flow.
The report predicts that by 2035, global annual Token usage will grow 100,000 times, with agent traffic accounting for over 90%, placing demands on computing power, networks, and cloud that far exceed traditional internet applications. The ten key questions cover AGI development, a hundredfold increase in computing cluster scale, new storage and memory systems, AI integration into communication systems, chip design methods, Agent OS, new forms of terminal intelligence, intelligent driving, power and cooling for AIDC, and security and privacy for autonomous agents.
Huawei also released the Global Digital Intelligence Index (GDII) 2026, written with the Institute of Economics at Tsinghua University. The report predicts that AI will create over 27 trillion US dollars in economic value over the next five years, with global investment in digital intelligence infrastructure growing at a compound annual rate of 19.14% and exceeding 4 trillion US dollars by 2030.
