Huawei's Ascend CANN open-source community tops 5,200 monthly active users, becoming China's most active
Zhu Zhaosheng, head of Huawei's computing strategy and business development, said Ascend has passed the ecological turning point and can build a new AI ecosystem in the Agentic era. The Ascend CANN open-source community has over 5,200 monthly active users and has been China's most active open-source community since June. Non-Huawei developers now outnumber Huawei developers, with over 30,000 lines of code added daily.
More than 40 large language and multimodal models have been pre-trained on Ascend, making it China's only AI computing platform supporting pre-training. Ascend has also integrated mainstream frameworks like PyTorch.
Huawei's Lingqu Ascend 950 cloud service will launch in China on September 30 and globally on November 30. Huawei also released the Ascend 960 super node, planned for Q3 2027, with a new generation every year.
