Jensen Huang Rejects AI Doom Talk at LA Summit, Trump Calls In to Back AI
At the All-in Summit in Los Angeles, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly rejected the recent "AI doom" warnings. Earlier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei wrote on September 12 calling for the AI industry to slow down, warning that AI's ability to help build next-generation AI is evolving fast and could outpace human understanding and control. Two Anthropic researchers also warned that fast-developing AI could lead to human extinction, prompting more U.S. lawmakers to call for new AI regulations.
Huang responded at the summit that such doom warnings are "made up," coming from well-educated researchers in labs, and that stacking these words and predictions causes panic and is irresponsible. He also noted that China's narrative on AI is much more pragmatic, with no talk of "AI doom."
At the event, Huang unexpectedly received a speakerphone call from U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump defended AI strongly, calling concerns about AI safety a "scam" and saying "robots won't take over. AI won't rule the rest of the world." He praised data centers as "the oil of the next 20, 25 years," saying they make individuals and states rich. On AGI, Huang said "I think we're there too," and called for all of America to move forward together.
