Jensen Huang says AGI milestone no longer matters, AI should focus on productivity and profit
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on an earnings call that the AGI milestone is no longer important, and AI should focus on real productivity and profitability. He believes AI has moved from waiting for prompts to autonomous agents that improve recursively. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expects OpenAI to achieve AGI internally by year-end, defining it as highly autonomous systems outperforming humans in most economically valuable work.
Huang stressed three priorities: AI doing productive work, generating profitable tokens, and using more compute for higher returns. His remarks may address market fears of an AI bubble. Nvidia reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year-over-year, but growth was limited by memory shortages, expected to last until early 2028, with GPU prices already rising.
