Kimi K2.5 Retires End of Month, K3 Takes Over as Open Source
Kimi K2.5, a trillion-parameter multimodal model from Moonshot AI, will retire at the end of this month. It was open-sourced and launched in January, excelling in agent tasks, coding, images, and general intelligence. K2.5 uses a native multimodal design, handling both visual and text inputs, with thinking and non-thinking modes for chat, reasoning, and automation.
Its successor, Kimi K3, was open-sourced in July. With 2.8 trillion parameters, it's built on KDA hybrid linear attention and supports native vision with a 1 million token context window. Moonshot AI says K3 is the first open-source model at this scale, and Kimi has held the record for largest open-source model for 9 of the past 12 months.
