Kimi pauses new user sign-ups due to computing power shortage, focuses on existing users
Kimi, an AI assistant from Moonshot AI, announced it has paused new user subscriptions for consumers due to a computing power shortage. All resources are now dedicated to existing users to protect their experience.
The Kimi team said user requests surged beyond expectations after the launch of the Kimi K3 model, pushing the system to its limits. They are working to expand capacity and will gradually reopen subscriptions. Future plans include splitting Kimi's main features from Kimi Code to better manage computing power.
The Kimi K3 model, released on July 16, has 2.8 trillion parameters and a 100 million token context window, focusing on long-range coding and knowledge tasks. Kimi president Zhang Yutong said the model's weights will be made public soon. Data shows Kimi's annualized revenue hit a record single-day high on the day of K3's launch.
