Korean AI Startup Upstage Expands Partnership with AMD to Deploy GPUs for AI Model Development

Korean AI startup Upstage recently announced an expanded strategic partnership with AMD, planning to deploy AMD Instinct MI355 GPU accelerators in phases over the next year. These computing facilities will support Upstage's development of LLMs and document processing engines, as well as its participation in South Korea's government-led 'Proprietary AI Foundation Model' project.

Upstage CEO Sung Kim stated that AMD is the cornerstone of global AI computing infrastructure, and this collaboration is crucial for advancing their self-developed Solar LLM technology and building South Korea's autonomous AI model. AMD Chairperson Lisa Su noted that combining AMD's GPUs and open-source software with Upstage's expertise will enhance South Korea's autonomous AI capabilities and provide an efficient, open ecosystem to accelerate innovation.
