Korean Firm Kakao Mobility Unveils L4 Autonomous Driving Blueprint, Launches Paid Night Robotaxi Service in Seoul
South Korean company Kakao Mobility recently unveiled its L4 autonomous driving technology blueprint, aiming to achieve full-process autonomous driving. Currently, the firm has launched a paid night Robotaxi service in Seoul's Gangnam District, allowing citizens to experience autonomous travel.
Kakao Mobility plans to build advanced ML models capable of independent perception, judgment, and control, and ensure safety through hardware redundancy design. It will also use a vehicle validation platform to integrate virtual and real driving data to improve technical maturity.
In addition, the company will ensure service reliability via an intelligent autonomous driving comprehensive safety management platform, including 3D visualized riding environments. In the future, it will develop an uninterrupted monitoring center and VLM-based anomaly warning system, combining edge and cloud to guarantee safety. They also hope to build an open ecosystem to promote the sharing of training data, HD maps, and platform APIs in South Korea's autonomous driving industry.
