Ma Huateng Talks About Tencent's AI Journey: On the Boat But Not Seated Firmly, Insists on Steady Progress to Fill Gaps
At Tencent's shareholders' meeting, Chairman Ma Huateng directly responded to external doubts about whether Tencent's AI is lagging behind, using a vivid metaphor to describe the company's AI journey: "We thought we were on the boat a year ago, but later found it leaking. Now we're standing on it but can't sit down, hoping the boat speeds up."
He admitted that Tencent's early AI basic capabilities were not outstanding. In recent years, through talent development, team management and internal training, the company has been filling gaps and gradually entering the development track. He also emphasized that Tencent may not be the fastest to seize opportunities, but it insists on taking the right path and making steady progress with its own advantages: "We can't just cross over to grab others' territory when seeing them do something; we tried that before and basically failed."
