Malicious AI Misuse Exacerbates Telecom Fraud; Chinese Courts to Crack Down on Full-Chain Crimes
AI face-swapping and voice simulation technologies are used by criminals in telecom fraud, accurately replicating relatives' faces and voices to defraud. Traditional identification methods fail to distinguish, leading to higher success rates. Fraud-related gray industries have formed complete chains with obvious cross-regional features, increasing crackdown difficulty.
The Supreme People's Court stated that in 2025, it concluded 41,000 telecom fraud cases involving 85,000 people. Courts will severely punish AI fraud organizers and repeat offenders, crack down on full-chain related crimes, and issue judicial suggestions to regulators to improve technical prevention systems and curb misuse at the source.
